Yes, you are in Brooklyn, but are you really? No, you're in Brooklyn in your group, and everything there is defined by the group dynamics, the group purpose – in this recent case, Trapdoor Social's tour. WE ARE THE BAND. WE ARE ON AN EPIC TOUR. At the moment, your life revolves around THAT, and in your mentality so does everything around you. You are in a separate band-tour-world, plummeting through the rest of the world so fast it's hard to see the life of each city except through that lens.
Granted, this is a fun way to travel. I would argue that in traveling there should always be some element of bringing your own world, your own life, with you as an unchanging constant. But the key, the best way to go through life, is learning how to do this and still allowing your world to intersect with the ones you visit.
Enter:
the pie van.
The
pie van is also its own traveling world, a world that runs on dreams coming true; a world that ticks to a different clock than the
“normal” world around it. But selling pie to the “normal”
population allows the pie van to morph into a portal that connects
the dream-world to the real-world. Open that sliding door and you
have the gateway, hand over a slice of pie and suddenly the two worlds
touch. I see a window into your life, and you see a window into your
dreams.
